Marcus McCann's soft where (poetry)

Last night we launched Ottawa poet and journalist Marcus McCann's first trade poetry collection, soft where, to a rousing crowd at the ottawa international writers festival, with poets Jeanette Lynes and Molly Peacock along for the ride to help, launching titles of their own. author bios:

Born in Etobicoke, ON, Mitchell Parry spent part of his childhood in Manchester, England. He obtained a Masters of Arts from the University of Western Ontario in English Literature and Film Studies. He has been an ESL teacher and an arts administrator and has worked in film production in Calgary and Montreal. Parry is a frequent contributor to The Malahat Review and has written many reviews and articles. His own poems have appeared in literary journals such as The Fiddlehead, The Antigonish Review, Pottersfield Portfolio, Event and The Malahat Review. He won The Antigonish Review's Great Blue Heron Poetry Contest in 2002 and Pottersfield Portfolio's Sixth Annual Compact Poetry Competition in 2001. His poetry collection Tacoma Narrows was a finalist for the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize, and his newest collection is Imperfect Penance (Goose Lane Editions). Mitchell Parry currently divides his time between Victoria, where he teaches film studies at the University of Victoria, and Pender Island where he lives with his partner, poet Marlene Cookshaw.

Clare Latremouille is a displaced British Columbian, originally from Kamloops. After a ten year hiatus, she returned to the east in the late 90s, and her work has appeared in Hostbox, paperplates, Missing Jacket, The Peter F. Yacht Club, STANZAS, the anthologies Written in the Skin (Insomniac Press, 1998), Shadowy Technicians: New Ottawa Poets (Broken Jaw Press, 2000), and Groundswell: best of above/ground press, 1993-2003 (Broken Jaw Press, 2003), as well as the chapbook I will write a poem for you. Now: (above/ground press, 1995), and her first novel appeared with Chaudiere Books in 2006, The Desmond Road Book of the Dead. She is currently working on a novel or two.

Rob Friday is a poet, painter and trained theatrical technician (Humber College). A member of the Temagami First Nation in Northern Ontario, he received his BA in English Literature from Laurentian University in 1997. From a young age, he was taught to embrace his creative energy and appreciate nature. His poetry has a narrative structure and metaphorical content allowing him to reconcile an imagined world with the reality at hand. He was a regular at the Applegrove Café reading series in Sudbury and his poem “Chameleon” was aired on CBC North Radio in 1996. He recently won the John Newlove Award for Best Poem of 2008, and is currently working on his first chapbook of poetry.
