National Poetry Month : Karla Kelsey,

Furrow

Relax your mouth, your cheeks, your forehead, your eyes. Après the silk bag, après the cremation chamber, après the hummingbird flung into the sliding glass window and the singed edge overexposed, every being continues to count on our sun. Parse this, ignoring agate’s formation inside volcanic rock, its banded iridescence an homage to magma now hardened to plant-like hush. I harbor orchid’s dank secret in my gaze held slightly at the horizon and to the left. Outside representation, the crowd relegates itself to babble, as heard in pastel resort towns where all you longed for was a vista to photograph.
